A Brief Guide to Winter Horse Shows
November 16, 2012
Just because winter is nearly here doesn't mean you have to wait until Spring to watch or even participate in a horse show. Here are a few winter events through the U.S. worth catching, and if we missed a good one, let us know on our Facebook page!
The HITS Thermal Desert Circuit is generally regarded as one of the premiere winter equestrian events. Located just 25 miles from beautiful Palm Springs, this is a great winter event to catch if you want to avoid the cold. The circuit runs from January 22nd - March 17th in 2013.
If you're located in the middle of the country, you can catch the St. Louis Winter Festival Hunter/Jumper Series. Set in the scenic Lake St. Louis community, just outside of St. Louis proper, this series runs from December 5th 2012 to March 31st, 2013. Their website provides a list of events, prizes, accommodations and even the local weather.
For those of you in the northern part of the country, check out the West Michigan Horsefest. Held in the DeltaPlex arena in Grand Rapids on December 15th, this trade show offers retailer booths as well as seminars on showmanship and winter training by renowned coach Leesa Massman.
If you're located on the east coast, don't miss the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival. Held in beautiful Wellington, Florida, which is just outside of West Palm Beach, Florida, this event is the world's largest and longest-running equestrian competition. They award over $6 million in prize money, and host 5,000 horses from all over the country and over 30 countries worldwide.
