Transwest Teams with Run Amok Transport to Haul Emergency Hay to Texas
September 01, 2017
In the wake of Hurricane Harvey’s epic arrival on Texas shores Friday night, ranchers and equine lovers across the gulf are finding the evolving situation precarious.
As totals from the storm are being calculated, experts are totaling over 50 inches of rain (over 19 billion gallons of water) have fallen, breaking numerous state and coming just shy of national rainfall records. Livestock is being moved throughout the country and resources are being pulled, in an effort to comfort, shelter, and sustain the animals.
Meredith then connected to Ryan Eidsness, Transwest Trailer Division Sales Manager, who retracted a 53’ Drop Deck Trailer out of our rental fleet back from a willing customer in Ft. Morgan, CO. Less than 24 hours after call from Joel the trailer was off the Transwest lot, and headed to Westcliff, CO to pick up the donated hay. It is now on the way to Katy, Texas, where 250 evacuated horses, from Houston, have been sent.
RunAmok trucks taking a break from shipping horses, instead they're loaded with prime Colorado hay, pallets of water, grain and horse supplies to aid in the Harvey recovery. Huge thank you to The Zoology Foundation and Jami Jensen and her crew Audrey Norrell and Katharina Løvstad-Gebauer for making it happen. And especially my amazing drivers for donating their time to the cause, Kristian Eichler, Christi-Lyn and Corey Anderson. Hope we all have a safe midnight diesel burn to Houston!
Transwest is proud to be able to help. The ongoing need will continue for weeks and months, and cost up to $140 Billion, as the region begins to dry out and clean up.
The Zoology Foundation owned by Jami Jensen, is donating 100% of what is taken on their website for the next 30 days to Hurricane relief. There are ample opportunities to get involved, and while Transwest is in no way affiliated with any of organizations below, we encourage the brotherhood of charity efforts.
