Company History

The Transwest Story

Our Company history begins in the upper Midwest.  Born and raised in separate towns in North Dakota, George and Barb Eidsness met in Fargo while attending college. Each from small agricultural towns, they shared a mutual respect for hard work and hand-shake integrity.

George began his tenure in the transportation industry in the car business. Starting as a salesman with a gift, he quickly made his way to management.  By 1990, an opportunity to obtain a small dealership moved Barb and George to Colorado, and Transwest with the first 112 employees, began.

Over the last 29 years, Transwest has expanded tremendously, adding locations across 3 states and Canada, with a variety of dealerships, finance, and manufacturing services.  Transparency, coupled with a genuine, consultative sales and customer service philosophy, have driven growth and customer loyalty. Over 70% of Transwest business, is repeat and referral business. In 2018 over 1000 employees reported to Transwest facilities, and there is no sign they’ll be slowing down.

Deep roots are an important business and family philosophy.  Transwest stays involved with the local community through sponsors, scholarships, community programs, agriculture through 4-H, the National Western Stock Show, and more.

Buick GMC Isuzu

Our second location, Transwest Buick GMC Isuzu formed around 1990. The GMC dealership was primarily a medium-duty truck dealership, which also sold light-duty GMCs to retail customers. When the 2008 recession hit, General Motors discontinued production of medium-duty trucks. The dealership was then given a Buick franchise, rounding out the domestic offerings available.

Since then, the Henderson store has undergone a gradual transition to life sans medium-duty GMC trucks. These changes have energized the dealership and helping to grow the light-duty fleet, commercial business. and retail business.  Our customers have witnessed the changes in the Denver economy with growth and expansion in Commerce City, River Run, Stillwater, Belle Creek and Reunion.

Transwest Buick GMC Isuzu is regularly among the top fleet and commercial volume dealerships in the country for both GMC and Isuzu.

Trans Lease

In Trans Lease, our initial focus was to finance, nearly exclusively, trucks and trailers sold by our dealerships. Over time we have expanded into new markets servicing vendors outside of our dealerships. Originally based in Commerce City, we now enjoy a brand-new 22,000-square-foot office building at our Pecos campus, just off I-76 in Denver, next door to All Truck and Trailer Parts and All Fleet Services.

Trans Lease consists of 52 employees in eight locations. As an independent finance company, we can be more flexible and quicker to respond to your needs.  Working to provide the best experience for you we, in 2017, launched a customer portal and mobile application and are always optimizing for you.

Trans Lease has enjoyed tremendous growth with more than 7,000 assets financed to customers in all 50 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Trans Lease now ranks as the 7th largest independently-owned equipment finance company in the United States!

Frederick

Our Frederick location started as a small lot in the 1990’s, at I-25 and exit 240 (Highway 119), selling horse trailers, used personal trucks, and service out of three bays. We’ve grown to serve you and local demand, with 37 service bays, horse trailer sales, hauler truck sales, used trucks sales, and luxury RVs sales.

In July 2013, we began construction on the RV sales and service facility.  Located across the street, it’s dedicated to working on the interiors of RV coaches and living quarter horse trailers.

Our truck and trailer division offers sales, parts, and service for horse trailers and light to medium duty trucks, plus heavy-duty chassis parts and service.  Our Transwest RV location has sales, parts, and service for the top RV manufacturers. This location also services all RV and horse trailer living quarters.

All Fleet Services

All Fleet Services began in 1996 when a friend of our founder reached out wanting to lease parking and office space. We had a facility, leased long-term to a business who ended up leaving after one year. It became the facility for All Fleet Services and began with three offices, parking spaces, along with maintenance demand.

With more and more interest over the years, we pushed to expand the operation and build the facility which we currently operate out of today. We developed another parcel of land across the street which added an additional 172 spaces. Even more, demand led us to expand again just two years ago, adding an additional 58 spaces. All Fleet now has 325 pull-through parking spaces over 33 acres.

Today our tenant’s range anywhere from a single owner-operator leasing one parking space, to a larger fleet leasing 60 spaces, five office suites, with dedicated fueling for their Colorado trucks.

Grand Junction, Colo.

Our Grand Junction location operates like a small branch where everyone wears multiple hats and fills in throughout the store as needed. Celebrating 20 years in 2016,  Grand Junction covers all of Colorado’s Western Slope. Our outside sales team travels from Steamboat Springs in the north to Durango in the south. Our Western Slope location’s growing customer base relies primarily on local companies with very little national fleet business.  We are a Freightliner-Western Star dealer and an Isuzu dealer and have the honor of being the first outlying branch to start the process of becoming an Elite Support dealer, Elite Support certified in July 2018.

Summit Truck Equipment

Summit Truck Equipment (STE)  is our outside sales team representing Summit Truck Bodies. There are 10 regional salesmen in the US and one in Canada. STE, formally known as Transwest Truck Equipment, began in 1998 to supply the national Komatsu account with IMT and Seyller service bodies on Freightliner chassis, which led to the beginning of Summit Truck Equipment and Summit Truck Bodies in 2004.

Summit Truck Bodies

Summit Truck Bodies is tucked in the cornfields in Wathena, Kansas. The facility has recently grown from 96,000 sq. ft. to 132,000 sq. ft. We renovated to include modern, state-of-the-art equipment.  We’ve improved quality and efficiency to help production double to an average output of 480 trucks per year since the plant opened in 2003. We have 104 current employees at Summit. Our team is involved in every step of the process: from engineers in the early design stages to welders, painters, and technicians in final assembly and detail.

This plant was established to needs for a better-built body and improve service overall. Soon after, Transwest acquired Seyller Bodies’ share and Summit Truck Bodies was born.

Initially, the product line was service bodies only. Today, Summit designs and manufactures custom service, lube bodies, and specialty bodies, lube trailers, and skids. In order to save costs and improve product quality and customer service, Summit added a line of electric and hydraulic cranes consisting of eight models. STB also manufactures steel and aluminum drawer packs and bolt bins and offers the best after the sale service in the industry.

We’ve become known as an innovation leader in the industry with advanced safety electronic systems, setting the standards when it comes to quality and quick delivery times.

We are a one-stop shop for service trucks!

Summit Bodyworks has over 20 years of experience as a specialty vehicle builder and officially became part of Transwest in 2008.
