Although towing isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind when choosing an SUV, it’s still something to consider, given the SUV’s crossover capabilities. And even though you’ll almost always get more towing capacity from a full-sized pickup truck, there are still plenty of SUVs that can pull their own, whether you’re looking to tow a U-Haul, trailer, toy hauler, or camper.

Here’s our list of SUVs with serious towing power. All are rated to tow at least 8,000 lbs.

Expedition towing a pop up camper

Ford Expedition

  • Maximum tow rating: 9,600 pounds
  • Starts at $62,400

Fresh off a 2025 model redesign, the Ford Expedition boasts one of the highest tow ratings of any SUV and comes equipped with Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Backup Assist to make towing even easier. The twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, making 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, or 440 hp and 510 lb-ft in certain trims, paired with a 10-speed automatic, makes light work of a U-Haul or a trailer full of toys. And with high-quality finishes and three-row seating, you can bring the whole family along for full days of fun.

The Expedition’s maximum 9600-pound tow rating is achieved through the standard-wheelbase model with four-wheel drive and the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow package.

Grand Wagoneer backing a boat into a body of water

Jeep Grand Wagoneer

  • Maximum tow rating: 10,000 pounds
  • Starts at $66,530

A perennially great towing SUV, the Grand Wagoneer is rated to haul up to 10,000 pounds, a full 200 pounds more than previous model years. It’s powered by a twin-turbo inline-six Hurricane engine, delivering steady, confident torque regardless of road grade. Inside, you’ll find luxurious cabin finishes, including leather seating and polished wood accents that make you momentarily forget this is a work vehicle. The third row offers plenty of legroom, and the configurable cargo area provides even more storage space.

To hit that 10,000-pound rating, you’ll need to add the Trailer Tow Package to either the standard or long-wheelbase L configuration of the Wagoneer.

Toyota Sequoia

  • Maximum tow rating: 9,520 pounds
  • Starts at $66,920

The hybrid-only Toyota Sequoia makes electric assistance a towing asset. The twin-turbocharged V-6 and electric motor combine to deliver brisk acceleration and a healthy dose of low-end torque, exactly what you’re looking for to pull a loaded trailer off a stoplight. The Sequoia shares a chassis with the Tundra, which is partly responsible for its 9250-pound tow rating.

To reach the maximum tow rating, you don’t need an extra tow package, but you’ll have to stick with the rear-wheel-drive SR5 trim, as the four-wheel-drive and higher trim levels are rated slightly lower for towing.

Lexus GX towing a boat

Lexus GX

  • Maximum tow rating: 9,096 pounds
  • Starts at $66,935

The Lexus GX brings a boxy, trail-ready look and one of the highest predicted reliability ratings on this list at 89 out of 100 from J.D. Power. Its twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6, shared with the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, delivers plenty of thrust and capability on steep grades. The four-wheel-drive system is at home on a dirt trail and on the way to the ramp with a boat. The stylish, durable interior strikes a utilitarian tone with clear controls and ample first- and second-row space, though the third row may be a little cramped.

To reach the maximum 9,096-pound tow rating, you won’t need an additional tow package, but you will need to opt for the Premium, Premium+, Overtrail, or Overtrail+ trim.

Lincoln Navigator

Lincoln Navigator

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,700 pounds
  • Starts at $94,890

The Lincoln Navigator is similar to the Ford Expedition in many ways. They share a body-on-frame construction, the same twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, but the Navigator is wrapped in a more opulent package. The cabin is lavishly appointed with premium materials and ample space, and the 48-inch infotainment display provides clear navigation and road-trip entertainment.

The Navigator delivers a silky-smooth ride with the towing muscle you'd expect from a large body-on-frame SUV. Cargo space is outstanding, and the redesigned exterior cuts a commanding figure.

To get the maximum 8,700-pound tow rating, you'll need the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow package paired with the standard 22-inch wheels. The larger 24-inch option drops capacity by a few hundred pounds.

Dodge Durango towing a trailer

Dodge Durango

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,700 pounds
  • Starts at $40,990

The Dodge Durango isn't as big as most SUVs on this list, but it punches well above its weight, especially in value. Engine options range from a competent V-6 to a supercharged V-8 in the SRT Hellcat, giving you a dual-purpose performance SUV and capable tow vehicle in one package. The updated 10.1-inch touchscreen livens up the cabin, and the first and second rows are spacious, even if the third row is tight.

To unlock the 8,700-pound max tow rating, opt for the SRT Hellcat with the Trailer-Tow Group IV package. The standard V-8 models can also reach this figure with the right tow package.

Nissan Armada

Nissan Armada

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,500 pounds
  • Starts at $61,030

The Nissan Armada swapped its old V-8 for a twin-turbo V-6 in its most recent redesign and hasn't missed a beat. The new engine delivers ample acceleration and towing power, and the Armada handles corners surprisingly well for an SUV of its size. The ride is smooth, particularly with the optional adaptive air suspension, though the engine can sound a bit unrefined under hard acceleration. The cabin is spacious and richly appointed, with quality materials, seating for up to eight passengers, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

One of the Armada's biggest selling points for towers: all trim levels and configurations are rated to tow the full 8,500 pounds without requiring any extra packages.

Infiniti QX80

Infiniti QX80

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,500 pounds
  • Starts at $85,940

The Infiniti QX80 brings a similar powertrain to the Armada, wrapped in luxury. It's surprisingly quick off the line for its size, though ride quality worsens on rough roads, and sharp corners can be challenging. The interior showcases leather, wood trim, and an intuitive dual-screen setup that feels premium. The QX80 also earns one of the highest predicted reliability scores on this list, and most trims include an integrated electric trailer brake controller as standard.

Every QX80 trim can tow up to 8,500 pounds without needing extra packages or equipment.

GMC Yukon on a mountain raod

GMC Yukon

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,400 pounds
  • Starts at $72,395

The GMC Yukon sits at the top of GM's SUV tow-capacity lineup and looks quite handsome doing it. Although it delivers a smooth ride and feels nimble around corners, fuel economy trails the class, and cabin materials feel a bit less upscale. The Yukon's flexible seating for up to eight and a vast cargo hold will seal the deal for many family buyers, and a 16.8-inch touchscreen helps offset some of its shortcomings.

The 8,400-pound maximum tow rating applies only to standard-length Yukons equipped with the 5.3-liter V-8, rear-wheel drive, and the Max Trailering Package. Opting for the longer-wheelbase Yukon XL drops the tow capacity slightly.

Chevy Tahoe towing a camper

Chevrolet Tahoe

  • Maximum tow rating: 8,400 pounds
  • Starts at $63,495

The Chevrolet Tahoe is mechanically almost identical to the Yukon, but with a lower sticker price and a slightly less premium interior. It received an improved suspension for 2025 and can tow up to 8,400 pounds when properly equipped. The Tahoe seats up to nine passengers and has loads of cargo capacity, along with a 17.7-inch touchscreen. The V-8s don’t do much for your gas mileage, and interior materials aren't class-leading, but the Tahoe delivers the same core towing experience as the Yukon for less money.

To unlock the full towing capacity, you'll need the 5.3-liter V-8, rear-wheel drive, and the Max Trailering package.
