About Cement Mixer Trucks

When it comes to choosing a commercial vehicle for your company’s work, it is important to know that you are investing in the right equipment for your needs. A concrete mixer is far more than just a means of hauling – it is an incredible piece of machinery that allows you to mix cement while transporting the concrete to a job site. At Transwest, we can help you explore your options for a quality cement mixer.

Cement mixers are utilized across a wide array of industries- from small landscaping businesses to large construction companies. Cement mixer trucks make mixing concrete easy and efficient. They literally do the work while you are on your way to a job site. Upon arrival, you are ready to pour the concrete into place.

If you are shopping for a concrete mixer, we are here to assist you through every step of the process. Whether you are looking for a new or used cement truck, we will be happy to help. Reach out to learn more about locating the right cement mixer truck for your business.

Purchasing a cement mixer is an important investment for your company and often involves the need for financing. For this reason, working with our team makes good business sense. We are a one-stop shop and will work with you to ensure that you choose the vehicle and financing option that best matches your needs.

What is a concrete mixer truck?

Concrete mixer trucks, also referred to as cement mixers and in-transit mixers, are specialty trucks utilized to transport concrete to construction sites. The trucks are designed to be capable of not only hauling the heavy materials needed to create cement but also mix the right amount of cement on the way to the worksite.

A concrete mixer is most often used in the construction industry and by landscaping and development companies. The vehicle’s notable design features a front cab and a mixing barrel on the rear portion. This barrel is where the cement is created and kept in a liquid state until needed. Concrete mixers are like a modern workhorse by taking what was once a tedious task – mixing cement by hand – and turning it into an instant process.

How do concrete mixer trucks work?

Concrete mixer trucks work through a process of mixing and agitating cement. These unique trucks are filled with dry materials and water, which are then mixed together while in transit.

The key to a concrete mixer truck is that the cement remains in a liquid state through the constant turning of the drum during transportation. This allows the concrete to be poured directly from the truck. During transportation, the drum rotates during what’s known as the charging process. Once the mixer arrives at a job site, the rotation is reversed into discharge mode to force the concrete mix out of the mixer. The concrete is guided through a series of chutes to where it needs to be poured. From here, the concrete can be smoothed out by hand and left to set.

How long can you keep concrete in the truck?

During the process of mixing concrete, the key is to ensure that the cement remains in a liquid form. This liquid form is retained through a unique rotation of the concrete mixer’s barrel. The process of mixing and agitating the cement components is called batching. There is about a two-hour window in which the batched concrete can remain in the truck’s barrel before it begins hardening.

If concrete is left for too long in the truck’s mixer, the consequences will obviously be unwanted. As you prepare to purchase a concrete mixing truck, make sure to spend time familiarizing yourself with the specifics of the vehicle you choose. Always follow the recommendations outlined by the manufacturer to ensure that the cement never hardens prior to being poured.

How much concrete is in a concrete mixer truck?

Concrete mixer trucks are a unique piece of equipment capable of hauling an extremely heavy product: cement. The trucks themselves weigh anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 pounds. They can carry approximately 10 cubic yards of concrete. However, the amount that any given concrete mixer can transport will depend on the particular vehicle.

When picking a concrete mixer, it is vital to understand the specific weight limitations of the model. Different industries have different needs when it comes to the amount of concrete needed at any given job site. For example, when a smaller amount of concrete is required, a smaller concrete mixer is an optimal choice. Speak with a sales representative to learn more about which concrete mixers are equipped to carry the ideal load amount for your needs.

What concrete mixer truck should I buy?

Choosing a concrete mixer truck can be broken down into some key decisions. Like any piece of equipment that you purchase for your business, it is important to know that you are making a wise investment that will help boost productivity. Keep these factors in mind when you shop:

  • Size: First and foremost, you need to determine what size cement mixer truck you require. Pay attention to the maximum load the mixer can handle and be sure it meets your needs.

  • Budget: Go into the purchase process with a rough estimate of your budget. This will help you decide between a new or used vehicle and which add-on features you can buy.

  • Manufacturer: Take some time to explore the different manufacturers that design cement mixers. This will help you narrow down the brands that are most reputable and trustworthy.

  • My company needed a concrete mixer so I stopped by Transwest. Within no time at all, they helped me find the perfect fit and the right financing.
