New Livestock Trailer
At Transwest, we know how important it is to keep your livestock safe during transport. That’s why we partner with the best brands in stock trailers. Our sheep trailers have slatted sides for ventilation and plenty of space for equipment and hay. That way, you can haul your livestock with ease – whether you’re transporting your sheep for breeding, to competitions, to a new pasture, or just across town to the vet.
Sheep trailers come in bumper pull and gooseneck styles. If you make frequent, long-distance trips, a gooseneck sheep trailer will be easy to maneuver. Gooseneck trailers also have a heavier weight capacity, so they are ideal for large herds. For first-time owners or smaller herds, bumper pull trailers offer convenience and are budget-friendly. They are easy to hitch to your towing vehicle and don’t require any special equipment to haul.
At Transwest, we are here to support your farming business. We carry sheep trailer parts and accessories, and our highly skilled mechanics provide maintenance services to keep your trailer in top condition. We also offer a wide range of financing plans from a variety of trusted financing partners. No matter your budget or situation, there is a sheep trailer to match your needs.
Sheep trailers come in two custom styles: bumper pull and gooseneck. A bumper pull trailer has a short neck and attaches to a towing vehicle by way of a bumper hitch. Gooseneck trailers are recognizable for their long arm (also called a tongue) that reaches over the bed of the towing vehicle and attaches to a hitch. Although the gooseneck towing style is stronger and thus has more weight capacity, bumper pull trailers also come in a variety of sizes to accommodate livestock.
Yes, some sheep trailers include living quarters. True to their name, living quarters sheep trailers have an apartment-like living area that typically includes a sleeping area, kitchen, and bath. Some trailers come with luxurious living spaces, while others may be more functional. Non-living quarters trailers are typically lower priced and may have more space for your livestock.
Livestock trailers for sheep can be anywhere from 20 to 40 feet. long, depending on the make, model, and style. A livestock trailer with living quarters is typically longer than one without one. Living quarters trailers are often used by owners who spend a lot of time on the road with their sheep. In general, gooseneck style trailers are longer than bumper pull trailers due to their stronger towing system. If you have a large herd of sheep to transport, a gooseneck trailer may be a good option because of its high weight capacity. This style is also very stable and easy to maneuver on the road for long distances. Bumper pull trailers are a good choice for smaller herds of sheep; they’re also simple to hook up to the towing vehicle.
It depends on your needs and priorities. Many owners prefer aluminum trailers for their livestock because they are lightweight, durable, easy to maintain, and highly resistant to rust. If you have a steel trailer, you will have to monitor it closely to make sure that manure, hay, and water are not causing rust. Some first-time buyers prefer the price tag on steel trailers because steel tends to be less expensive upfront.
Keep in mind, though, that aluminum trailers are typically less costly to maintain and repair over time. They also have better gas mileage and can be easier to pull, with a higher payload capacity. Aluminum trailers also have a higher resale value on the whole than steel trailers because they hold up better over time.
Trailers are made from aluminum alloys that differ depending on the brand and model, the price of the materials, and the location of the manufacturer. Most aluminum trailers are made from alloys that are from different types of metals such as chromium, copper, titanium, and zinc. One of the most common types of aluminum used for trailers is 5356 metal, though many trailers use a selection from the 5000 or 6000 metal series. Alloys in 6000 series aluminum can be treated using heat, whereas 5000 series aluminum must be cold treated (also called strain-hardening).
Some aluminum trailers are built with a steel frame for extra durability; rust tends to occur less often on the frame. Other aluminum trailers may feature a powder-coated finish that prevents rust.
