A visit to Texas allows you the chance to chow down on delicious Texas BBQ while listening to live bands or head into the wilderness to see nature untamed. With so much to see and do in this state, it is easy to see why many call it a country of its own.

Big Bend National Park
Begin the refrain, “The stars at night are big and bright,” anywhere in Texas, and you’ll be greeted with a rapid response of four claps and a passionately sung, “Deep in the heart of Texas.”
This song has taken hold in Texas, where the sky truly is big and the stars bright. And there is no better place to see the inky black night skies and the milky hues of the galaxy than with a visit to Big Bend National Park in Far West Texas.
A drive to Big Bend National Park is an experience in and of itself. Miles of desolate roads will suddenly afford you views of rugged mountain ranges jutting up against the weathered desert land.
Activities at Big Bend National Park
Home to over 150 miles of trails, hiking will allow you to explore the park’s unique terrain. Be sure to pack plenty of water because even during the cooler months, the desert can quickly dehydrate hikers.
Stargazing is a favorite past-time of visitors to the park, as well as booking a river trip down the Rio Grande River.
Plan for a little extra time to explore nearby Terlingua, the home of a world-famous chili cookoff and half-abandoned ghost town.

This campground is the only place in the park with full hookups and is located deep in the heart of the park near the Mexico border. A camp store is also located within the campground, as well as internet connectivity, which can be helpful in this remote location where cell service is non-existent.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park
In the heart of the Texas panhandle lies the second largest canyon in the United States — Palo Duro. A drive to Palo Duro Canyon can feel surreal. One minute you’re driving across the repetitive fields of the flat panhandle, and the next, you are greeted by a sharp descent into the canyon floor.
With bright red and orange hues and otherworldly terrain, Palo Duro Canyon State Park is breathtaking and well worth the drive.

With over 30 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, take to the park on foot, two wheels, or on horseback to see the unique rock formations of the canyon up close and personal. Bird watching is another popular event in the park, and during the summer, enjoy a performance of TEXAS Outdoor Musical, a production the whole family will enjoy.

Located at the floor of the canyon, the state park’s campground offers water and electricity hookups with many sites backing up to the river. Restrooms with showers are available too. Each site features a fire ring and a picnic table to enjoy an evening spent under the stars.
Garner State Park
Leave the desert of the western portion of the state behind and head to Garner State Park, where families from the area gather every weekend to enjoy relaxation and recreation. Located in the scenic Hill Country, one of the park's highlights is the 2.9 miles of Frio River winding through the rugged terrain.

During the summer, the river comes to life as visitors hop into inner tubes and take part in the great Texas sport of tubing. The crystal clear waters and limestone canyon walls make a float down the river an enchanting experience. Additionally, 16 miles of hiking trails, fishing, and miniature golf will keep you, and the whole family entertained. During the summer months, be sure to bring the kids to the park’s nightly gathering around the jukebox for an evening dance.

Pick from an ample number of RV spots with full hookups and nearby restrooms and showers. The park’s concessionaire sells meals and snacks throughout the summer, and the campground store is well-stocked with supplies.
Mountain Breeze Campground
Located on the outskirts of New Braunfels, Texas, down the scenic River Road is Mountain Breeze Campground. A stay here provides easy access to the river and offers campers the chance to play horseshoes and sand volleyball. In the evenings, during the summer months, live music kicks off as people return from a day spent on the river. Be prepared for boot-stomping, hand-clapping fun!

Similar to the Rio Frio, one of the top activities that take place throughout the warm months is tubing the Guadalupe River. The campground offers convenient tube and raft rentals, and fees include equipment as well as unlimited shuttle rides for the day. Choose from full-day or half-day floats, and be sure to pack a cooler full of your favorite beverages and snacks as you experience the lively spirit of Texans on a classic float.
Don’t be surprised to hear groups of tubers singing their college fight songs at top volume along the way as you meet a few friendly Texans enjoying the river.

Choose from RV sites only yards away from the water with 30 and 50 campsites available. While there is no dump station on-site, there are free showers and restrooms for campers to use.

With more than five miles of coastline and access to the bay, this is a nature lover’s paradise. Tranquil days spent walking the beach or simply soaking up the sun will rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.

Mustang Island State Park is packed full of recreational opportunities. Swim, surf, fish, or bird watch as you spend the day in nature. Additionally, the park features the Mustang Island State Park Paddling Trail. Grab your kayak and explore the 20 miles of trails passing through some of the best shallow-water fishing areas in the state.
