With summer just around the corner, it’s almost prime amusement park season! There are numerous options to choose from, but we’d like to profile some of the country’s best destination spots in this week’s blog, along with nearby RV options.
Where to stop with those kiddos (the adult kind, too) while on the road
Legoland, Carlsbad, CA. There are Legolands all over the world, and two in the States, but the California location trumps the Florida spot with a few extra additions, like an aquarium and a new resort hotel that opens this year. What Legoland lacks in visceral ride thrills it makes up for in more unique kid-friendly rides. The park offers RV parking for $20, and you can stay overnight at numerous locations nearby up and down the coast, such as the Oceanside RV Park.
Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA. Busch Gardens is one of America’s most beautiful parks, with lush landscapes that show off what Virginia is capable of. In addition to the usual wild roller coasters and water park, Busch Gardens also offers live animal exhibits and a food and wine festival. You can stay in your RV at the nearby Anvil RV Park, which offers a shuttle service to the park.
Schlitterbahn, New Braunfels, TX. A lot of amusement parks offer water parks on the side, but Schlitterbahn is ALL water park and is considered by many to be the world’s best. The park is actually three large parks in one and has something for everyone, from a leisurely bob in a river to high-speed tube slides. RV camping is available right on the Guadalupe River at the Lazy L and L campground.
Elitch Gardens, Denver, CO. Elitch Gardens and Family Water Park in downtown Denver, is certainly one of the highest and most beautiful parks in the country. With a rich history dating back to the 1890s, the park’s latest editions of adrenaline include the Mind Eraser, the Tower of Doom, and Shipwreck Falls. The adjacent waterpark, Island Kingdom is free with park admission and an absolute “must-hit” on a hot summer day. Elitch’s is the perfect place to spend a day or two while waiting for unexpected repairs at our Frederick RV (just 20 minutes north) location. Rumor has it the park will be moving locations in the years to come, so make plans to visit before then!
